Vaccination of Primary Immunodeficiency Patients

With continuous follow-ups by the Association for Supporting Patients with Primary Immunodeficiency (idpa.org.ir), vaccination of immunodeficient patients was prioritized in the Ministry of Health, Treatment, and Medical Education’s guidelines, similar to other special diseases. The vaccination process for these patients was carried out in several phases during May 2021.
Initially, the Association registered immunodeficient patients who requested vaccination, organized them, and referred them to the Special Diseases Departments of the Deputy of Treatment at Tehran, Iran, and Shahid Beheshti Universities of Medical Sciences.
The first phase of vaccination for immunodeficient patients under treatment at Hazrat Rasoul Akram Hospital took place on May 1, 2021, during which about 20 patients were vaccinated.
In the next phase, coordinated with the Special Diseases Department of Tehran University of Medical Sciences, 27 patients requesting vaccination and under treatment at the Medical Center Hospital and the Immunology, Asthma, and Allergy Research Center were vaccinated on May 11, 2021.
In the third phase, again in coordination with the Special Diseases Department of Tehran University of Medical Sciences, immunodeficient patients under treatment at Imam Khomeini Hospital received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine on May 16, 2021.
It is noteworthy that the second dose of vaccination for these patients is scheduled to be administered 28 days after the first dose.
Additionally, other immunodeficient patients in different cities have been instructed to visit their local Special Diseases Departments to receive COVID-19 vaccination.
